Tips For Planting Colorful Garden

Posted by busy mom on May 3, 2010 in Household Tips, Women Interests, Beauty |

Gardening season is upon us.

Yes, May is the beginning of the gardening season for me. I love to garden, but more then that I love to be surrounded by beautiful flowers and green shrubs.

I used to have a beautiful garden with lots of gorgeous rockeries, flowering shrubs and trees in my old house.

Since we are in a brand new home without landscaping I get the opportunity to design and start new gardens.

My Old Garden #1

I am very lucky to live in a mild climate zone where we can enjoy flowers and produce till late October.

I usually don’t start planting my gardens till Mother’s Day.

After Mother’s Day the possibility of frost and hail is very little and I can leave all my planters outside.

Also as a part of Mother’s Day my boys take me to our local nursery to pick out plants and hanging baskets for my garden.

My Old Garden #2

Over the years and with the help of my green-thumb friend I learned few important rules about picking out flowers , plants and shrubs at the nursery:

  • Always buy at least 4 containers of each variety
  • Always pick plants that have flowers in a full bloom
  • Make sure you buy plants that look good and colorful after they lose all the flowers
  • Do not buy plants that are marked down because they don’t look good (you’ll be throwing your money away)
  • Make sure you replant your flowers when you get home (evening or early morning is the best time)
  • Do not buy flowers or plants with small roots
  • Place your planters or plant your flowers and plants according to their labels
  • Chose a color scheme. If you have few area you can have few different color schemes that compliment each other

With these few gardening tips in mind I can’t wait to start planting.

My Old Garden #3

I am looking forward this Sunday not only because my family will treat me to gourmet Mother’s Day brunch at the Golf & Country Club, but because I finally get to visit our local nursery and start my new garden.
