Slap Chop – Graty Product Review
Who doesn’t know the infomercials funny guy Vince promoting The SLAP CHOP – the amazing food chopper that dices, chops and minces in seconds.
Right now Slap Chop online has an offer: for “limited time” (the longest limited time ever) you can buy one Slap Chop and receive second Slap Chop free and all you have to do is just pay separate shipping and handling charges for the additional Slap Chop. They will also include Graty – the awesome cheese grater that sells in As Seen On TV stores for $14.95.
My son received the SLAP CHOP and Graty combo as a Christmas gift from my friend. She even spend the extra money to upgrade the Slap Chop to the deluxe version with better stainless steel blades and Graty with extra blades.
You would never know that there is a deluxe version of Slap Chop unless you order it online and you are willing to pay extra $9.99 per set ($19.99 for the buy 1 get 1 free deal) for the upgrade.
Which brings me to a question. Better stainless steel blades? Would we get Slap Chop with bad blades if we didn’t upgrade?
I wonder. Would the cheaper stainless steel blades chop and slap any less?
I searched on the internet and I found many reviews from people recommending Slap Chop as well as Graty products and I wonder if any of these people actually used Slap Chop and Graty themselves or they are just being paid to promote it?
Here is my take on the Slap Chop and Graty.
Deluxe Slap Chop with “better” stainless steel blades. It’s not too bad of a product. You can’t really chop with using 1 finger as Vince would have you believe. If he was here I would slap him. You can’t put too much food at once or the pieces would get stuck inside the blades. The rotating blade doesn’t rotate evenly all the time as the Slap Chop guru Vince would have you to believe. Every second or third time you end up with half of the food too chopped and the other half of the food in large chunks.
Also it takes few chops more to have the same consistency as seen on the commercial and sometimes the plastic cap that’s covering the blades falls off and you have to unscrew everything, clean it and re-attach it. Not the fun part of slapping and chopping.
It is easy to clean, but again you can’t just rinse it. Sometimes you have to use little tiny brush to clean the blades properly.
Graty the cheese grater. If you receive your Graty as a part of the offer that’s fine. If you go and buy it in As Seen On TV store or anywhere else in my opinion you will be wasting your money.
Graty is a small plastic container that has two compartments so you can use two different kinds of cheese. The “deluxe” Graty comes with 3 different blades.
My son tried the Graty and was upset that it didn’t work as shown on TV. My hubs decided to show him how it’s done, but no success. Finally, I took it upon myself to test it out while making pizza.
I put two small pieces of cheese in the compartments, closed it up and proceeded to turn it with ease as seen on TV. There was no….fettucini, linguini, martini or bikini….All there was after 5 minutes was sweat running down my back, my hands were hurting from the grip I had on the Graty, the Graty sign was almost smudged off the cheese grater and all I had to show for was less then 1/4 cup of grated cheese.
Cleaning the Graty was a nightmare.

So in Conclusion:
Slap Chop is a handy kitchen gadget when I need to chop small amounts of nuts or fruit in a hurry. It is an average food chopper, but I would not purchase it myself. My kids like using it while pretending they are in a commercial.
Graty is a completely useless kitchen gadget and the worst cheese grater I ever tried. I would never spend my money on it.

I so appreciate these types of reviews. I have always been weary, too, of buying any of these products seen on t.v. They just make it seem to good to be true.
I was wondering if the slap chop was any good. It looks like a cheaper version of something that the Pampered Chef sells. Thanks for the review.
I actually bought the Slap Chop on a whim as a silly Christmas gift for my husband- we always joke about the commercial and I saw the Slap Chop while I was in CVS. (Mind you- they aren’t available in stores….) I agree- it does a decent job, but I’m not gonna run out and jump up and down about it!
Didn’t try the Graty- thankfully!
I received the slap chop, and graty for Christmas as well, I use my SC, when I’m NOT in a hurry, because I find you have to pay close attention to how many chops you do, if you chop too much, (more than 4) you create a bit of a mush. Do not chop mushrooms!!! they get stuck!
the Graty is a piece of junk, throw it over your shoulder, it’s to thick for gripping, and the cheese just piles up instead of coming out grated!, and I agree, cleaning was a pain.
Slap Chop….4 out of 10
Graty………0 out of 10
I’m so glad I found this review today…I saw one of these in the store earlier and was debating buying it. I’m here and following you from the Friday Follow
I bought the slapshot 2 weeks on Ebay from a gentleman in Korea, and only stumbled on this site as I wanted to see how the Graty works. Folks, it didn’t make me stop having a boring life, but it is an honest-to-goodness device, and works quite well. I also used the Slap Chop to slice carrots for lasagna, and it worked far more conveniently than a knife and a chopping board. I think it’s 11 dollars (Canadian) very well spent.
