Living Room Renovation Update

Posted by busy mom on Jun 10, 2010 in Crafts & DIY Projects, Decorating Ideas |

Building and renovating house is a big job especially if you are doing it yourself and trying to stay within your limited budget.

We bought a new house and started big renovation in the midst of the crushing economy.

Since my husband worked in the building industry he like other thousands of hardworking people lost his “secure” job overnight in October 2008.

The renovation had to be put on hold and we were doing little things that didn’t require too much money using materials we purchased before the job loss.

Things are finally turning around especially for us and we were able to get back on track and continue in our never ending renovation.

The thing that bothered me most was our main living room. I was so tired of looking at the ugly and unfinished drywall.

Since my husband works on the road we have only few days here and there to work on our house, but where there is a will there is a way.

I never was “handy” person, but I learned a lot and I can say that our living room is finally finished (except two light fixtures that are coming soon).

We started with this. The floor was in, the drywall was up.

Since I chose deep pumpkin color we had to go with tinted primer:

We decided to go with crown moldings in white, base boards and trim in dark stained wood, lighter colored hardwood floor and chocolate brown window inside trims.

After hours and hours of sanding, muding, painting and staining the final result is fantastic.

I picked up this great looking cabinet on blowout sale in Wal-Mart for $93.00

This great looking shelf was only $20.00 at the Liquidation World.

I always wanted one of these cool globe bars, but never wanted to pay hundreds of dollars for it. As luck would have it I picked it up at 70% off when I was ready for it.

The SECTIONAL SOFA was on sale for $1,000 ($1,200 off) and they threw in the oversized ottoman. Not bad deal at all.

This never ending project will be finished by the end of June. Can’t wait for everything to come together.

The living room is still missing light fixtures, corner cabinet (where the yellow suitcase stands) and corner TV stand with new TV on the other side.

I am joining Holly from 504 Main for Tickled Pink Friday again. So if you have anything to share that Tickles You Pink join in and enjoy the HOP.
