Are you thinking about adding a puppy to your family?

There are people who love big dogs. People who love average size dogs and of course people who prefer little lapdogs.

Few years ago another important question would be: purebred or mix?

These days we can add Designer Puppies to the mix.

Designer puppies became very popular in 2000’s . By end of 2005 seemed like almost every celebrity had to own one.

In last 4 years designer puppies are gaining more and more popularity.

There are lots of advantages of owning a designer puppy:

• they are adorable
• they are more affordable then purebreds
• they are not as prone to inherit health problems
• they are the combination of the best qualities of 2 breeds
• they are better for people with allergies
• they are just the perfect size (you can pick a size looking at the parents)

If you are deciding to add a puppy to your family and you are thinking about designer puppy here are few most sough-after breeds of designer dogs:

1. Puggle – (Pug + Beagle). Puggles are very sweet tempered, playful and affectionate.They are also very intelligent and sociable. Perfect family dog as they bond quickly and are perfect companion for children and seniors alike.  They are considered the lowest maintenance of all designer breeds. They have a short hair and fully grown puggle will stand 10 to 15 inches at the shoulder. Male puggles are often larger then female puggles.

2. Schnoodle – (Schnauzer + Poodle). Schnoodles are very intelligent and very affectionate dogs. They are also little balls of energy, very curious and playful. Schnoodles are great with children, but as any dog they need their own space. Schnoodles come in various sizes and can grow up to be anywhere between 10 to 60 pounds depending on the size of the parents (miniature or regular size schnauzer and poodle). They are very active, but not demanding. They will ge their exercise anyway they can.

3. Goldendoodle – (Golden Retriever + Poodle). Goldendoodles are friendly and affectionate. Intelligent and great family dogs. They love to swim.  Goldendoodles usually come in 3 sizes – Miniature goldendoodles can weight up to 30 pounds, medium goldendoodles can weight up to 45 pounds and standard goldendoodles can weight up to 80 pounds or more. Goldendoodles shed less then golden retrievers and some breeders even claim that goldendoodles are hypoallergenic.

4. Yorkie-poo – (Yorkshire Terrier + Toy/Mini Poodle). Yorkie-poos are one of the smallest designer puppies available. Grown up Yorkie-poo weights between 3 and 15 pounds and is 7 to 12 inches tall at the shoulder. Yorkie-poos are friendly and energetic lapdogs. They can be little harder to train due to their stubborn nature. They make great family dogs, but some yorkie-poos might not tolerate very small children.
