DIY – Kids Busy Box Project
Busy Box is the perfect thing to keep your kids busy while waiting in restaurants, doctor’s office, while traveling. For me that little magic box was a life-saver. It keeps my kids busy for 10 years now.
When my oldest son was born over 12 years ago I was one of those moms who made themselves a promise that their life will not change just because they have a baby.
At that point in my life I owned busy Italian restaurant and we traveled a lot. I kept the promise to myself and with little tweaks and little compromise I made my child part of our busy world.
Most of the time it was no problem. As my son was growing older and entering the “terrible two’s” I was beginning to have hard time to keep him busy in restaurants, on the planes, at the airports and other public places where there was no toys to keep kids busy.
I decided to make him little Busy Box to keep in my car or in his backpack at all times. This little busy box was a lifesaver. Ever since then I never had major problems to keep my child busy and occupied while waiting for anything.
Every couple of months I changed the toys and activities in the Busy Box so he wouldn’t get bored.
Five years later my other son was born and we scaled down our busy lifestyle a bit, but we still kept traveling and enjoying life as much as we could. This time around I didn’t wait too long before I made another busy box to keep both of my kids busy.
Today my youngest boy is 7 and he still uses busy box. These days it contains more books and electronics, but the good old busy box still keeps my kids busy and occupied.
My best friend’s little girl just turned 2 years old few weeks ago and yes she is officially the member of “terrible two’s” club. Lately everywhere we go we find ourselves looking through our bags and purses to find anything to keep her busy. Even for a few minutes.
So I decided it was time for another Busy Box Project. I wanted to surprise my best friend and Baby S by making her Busy Box of her own.
First, I visited Winner (similar to Big Lots) and I purchased little cardboard suitcase for the busy box.
Next was trip to Dollar Store to filled up that busy box with little things I know she loves.

Supplies:
- Little Cardboard Suitcase or Rubbermaid Container with handle
- Super activity pad (coloring book)
- 24 crayons
- Mini Blackboard and Chalk
- Crazy Eights Cards
- Memory Match Cards
- Mini Glowing Picture Art
- Mini TV Viewer – Animal of the world
- Educational Mini Wooden Blocks (numbers & letters)
- 24 Piece Giant Puzzle
- 10 Pieces Lego Duplo
- 2 Little Story Books
- 3 Little Toys (can use age appropriate McDonald’s toys)
- Note book
I gave the busy box to Baby S this morning when we went out for breakfast. It was the most enjoyable breakfast we had in along time. The look on her face was priceless and she was so proud carrying her little Busy Box into the car afterward. My best friend, what can I say….I just brought a little sanity back into her life. This little suitcase will keep all of her kids busy even the teenagers.
Busy Box Project cost me under $25.00 and I know she will enjoy it for months to come.
It was one of the best gifts I ever gave.
You need to keep your kids busy? Perhaps you know someone who needs help to keep their kids busy?
Surprise them with personalized Busy Box of their own.

I wish i would have thought about that when my daughter was young!
Thanks for joining my party Get your craft on Thurs. I hope you join me next week. Mr. Linky disappeared for a while tonight I thought I lost all of my guest, but it finally came back. I will not be using Mr. Linky anymore!
Yeah…what a great idea! That would have been a lifesaver when our oldest went through terrible threes. She’s almost 7 now but I still think it would work out wonderfully for her. Maybe then she won’t leave her stuff in our vehicles or say she’s bored, with nothing to do.
