Celebrate Your Name Day

What is a Name Day you ask?

Name Day is an old tradition celebrated by people in many European countries as well as Latin America.

Almost every calendar day is associated with someone’s first name hence the Name Day.

Name Day has been celebrated since the Middle Ages and it originated with the Catholic and Orthodox Calendar of Saints.

Most of the names in the calendar were assigned to a certain days based on historic events, religious believes and traditions, birth of important people and other significant occurrences. Slowly other popular names were added to the calendar and Name Day was born.

Today every calendar in most of the Europe has a name for every day of the year. Some days are shared with few names as popular names are being added to it.

There are little differences between celebrating Names Day and Birthday.

Birthday is usually celebrated with close family and friends in a form of a party or a family dinner and outing.

Since everyone owns a calendar NAME DAY is celebrated with family, friends, co-workers and all the people in your life that wish to acknowledge your day.

The person celebrating Name Day will receive Happy Name cards, flowers, chocolates, bottle of wine for the older crowd and/or small gifts. Usually there is not a big party to celebrate Name Day, but some people like to celebrate with small last minute gathering of friends.

As a European I love to CELEBRATE my Name Day, but I was sad that my children and my husband didn’t have their own Name Day.

One day I came across a website called My Name Day.com

The person behind this awesome Name Day website spent 8 months researching the North American history to make a calendar that includes over 2000 American and Canadian most popular names.

The final product was a calendar that allows Americans and Canadians to celebrate their Name Day as well.

Not only you can now find out when your Name Day is and celebrate it. You can also purchase your very own 2010 calendar with North American names and personalized Name Keepsakes.

As of last year I celebrate not only my own NAME DAY, but also my husband’s and my children names.
