As a busy mom trying to raise a family while living on a budget I am always on a lookout for new tips and ideas. Not only to make my money last longer, but also for our busy life to run smoother.

I made a list of 10 household useful tips and ideas on how to save money and time while raising your family and watching your pennies. I hope some of these helpful household tips will help you just as they help me.

  1. Freshen Up Your Old Coffee Grinder – Your old coffee grinder developed a funky smell and the blades are getting dull. Don’t waste your money on a new one. All you need is to take half a cup of uncooked rice for a spin in your grinder. The rice will absorb the odor and sharpen your blades at the same time.

  3. Polish Your Wood Floors without paying for an expensive wood polisher. All you need is a spray bottle with equal parts of white vinegar and vegetable oil. Just spritz it on the floor and rub it in with a cotton cloth. Wipe and buff. Your wood floor will look like new.
  4. Clean Water Stains For Pennies – company is coming and you are out of a bathroom cleaner. Grab a sponge with some fabric softener on it, dab it onto your metal fixtures and porcelain. Let it sit for 15 minutes and wipe with damp cloth. Your porcelain and your metal fixtures will not only sparkle, but the clear coating will prevent soap residue from sticking  and will keep them clean longer.
  5. Streak Free Windows – tired of the film and streaks after washing your windows….Fill a bucket with a gallon of lukewarm water and add 2 capfuls of fabric softener. Dip a sponge in the solution, wring it out and wash the windows. Dry it with lint free cloth.
  6. Get Rid Off Laundry Hamper Smell – just put some regular chalk into a small ziploc bag, cut a small slit in it and drop it on the bottom of your laundry hamper. The chalk will absorb the moisture that causes the stinky odor. Don’t forget to replace it once a month.
